The origins of Mersen can be traced back to the late 19th century, when ‘The Fabius Henrion Plant’, an electric motor, dynamo and lamp manufacturer was established in 1891 in France. A similar company ‘Le Carbone’, who made motor brushes came into being in 1892. The two of them would join forces in 1937 ten years after Fabius Henrion changed its name to Compagnie Lorraine de Charbons pour L’Electricite, combined they became known as ‘Groupe Carbone Lorraine.’
With a solid base in electrical motors and control systems the new company continued to expand their business model, purchasing Ferraz, a well-known fuse manufacturer and various other companies in the process. Their product portfolio steadily expanded to include products related to power electronics, electrical protection, rigid carbon felts and capacitors to name a few. Eventually, in 2010, Carbone Lorraine officially changes its name to Mersen. Since then, determined to empower the business further, Mersen has acquired more businesses including laminated busbar specialists and lightning and overvoltage protection companies, and continues to be an innovative leader in the design and manufacture of electrical control systems and components.
Mersen has a comprehensive and broad product offering covering electrical protection and control products such as low and medium voltage general purpose fuses, surge and lightning protection systems, Photovoltaic products, wind power and much more.
